AHSA Co-ops

AHSA sponsors two co-ops that meet twice a month, DASH and ENRICH, and one co-op, BOOST, that meets once a week. Classes are taught by volunteers, and a parent from each family is required to stay on campus at all times to serve in a teaching or supporting role during the day. The co-ops are primarily for enrichment and are not intended to take the place of daily instruction at home. High school classes may hold additional, optional, meeting times for core subjects to supplement the regular bi-monthly co-op days. The cost of each class varies depending on the subject and materials required. We try to keep costs as low as possible. Registration for co-ops is held during the summer for new attendees. AHSA membership is open year-round for field trips and events; however, co-op registration closes when we reach enrollment capacity and does not reopen until the following summer. Classes begin in August or September, depending on the co-op. Scroll down to find out more about each co-op.

Dash

DASH (Directing Academic and Spiritual Hearts) exists to provide academic, social, and spiritual encouragement and support for all families involved.  DASH is a full day co-op for students of all ages.  We meet twice a month (September-April) and offer both academic and enrichment classes for students from Kindergarten through High School. DASH is unique in that every mom (or dad) contributes by teaching one class during the day.

We will be hosting an Open House for interested families on Monday, March 11th.   Please join us for a glimpse into DASH!  Two sessions will be offered that day, a morning session and an afternoon session.   Our morning session will be from 10:15 am-12:00 noon and our afternoon session from 1:15-3:00pm.  Each session will include a short informational meeting with Q&A time, a tour of our facility, and a chance for your child(ren) to visit one of the classes currently offered. Sign-ups to visit DASH will be open through March 4th. Space is limited, so sign up today! DASH Co-op meets at North Anderson Baptist Church in Anderson. Please note- attending Open House does not guarantee a spot for your family in DASH for the 2024-2025 school year.  Openings will be offered as spots are available.

Enrich

Enrich is a Christian Co-op that offers twice monthly classes (the 2nd and 4th Mondays) from August - May. We meet for three hours, from 9-12, with each parent contributing in some way (teaching or assisting in a class, clean up, etc.). One of your hours will be spent hanging out during "Rev Time," which is a chance to snack, relax, and get to know the other parents while the kids are having class. There is opportunity for additional fellowship time during the lunch hour after classes. We have a back to school get together in August, a Christmas party in December and an end of year party in May. We also hope to include some field trips this coming year.

The member fee for Enrich is $60 per family and is due in the summer before registration. In addition, you will pay a registration fee of $5/child due by orientation. Class fees for each class you choose for your child(ren) will be due in August before classes begin. The Enrich member fee covers basic supplies for the co-op while the class fee covers materials for the classes. The registration fee helps cover the cost of insurance.

**We will have an open House on March 11th and 25th. If you would like to join us for our open house, please complete the form below and/or contact us through our email. We would love to meet your family!

Boost

Boost is an academic co-op that meets every Tuesday throughout the school year. Classes are based on need, but we currently offer classes up to 10th grade. Apply here. Contact us if you have any additional questions.

Expectations

Boost aims to create an environment where our children can have access to more rigorous, academic-based classes while also incorporating character building, community, and spiritual growth. Because Boost will be more academic in nature than some co-ops, we will require more teacher and student accountability. The following will be key components of Boost:

  • Parents may use whatever curriculum they would like at home during the week. At Boost, one lesson will be given per week covering fundamental concepts in each class. Parents may choose to dive deeper into the topic covered that week at Boost or continue through their own curriculum at their own pace throughout the rest of the week. Boost is meant to be a supplement to, not a replacement of, your current homeschool curriculum.
  • Middle and high school students will be given 1 short required assignment per week.
  • Middle and high school student work will be given a number grade by the teacher.
  • Elementary student work will be graded based on completion (with notations for improving included).

To ensure that an adequate number of classes are offered, each parent will be required to teach one class at Boost. We want to help give you the tools to succeed. The following will be provided to parent-teachers by the leadership team:

  • The leadership teach will give each parent-teacher a scope and sequence, as well as a calendar to help the parent know what they need to teach and when.
  • The leadership team will also be available to parent-teachers in an advisory capacity to help with any planning, curriculum, or classroom management issues.
  • The leadership team will provide brief training before co-op in classroom management and teaching strategies.
  • Each class will have a parent helper in the class to assist the teacher.

As a parent, what can you expect from Boost?

  • Nursery will be provided.
  • All students will get a supervised lunch period and recess time, as well as a morning break.
  • Pre-K students will be taught using a basic Pre-k curriculum.
  • Elementary and middle school students will be taught literature, science, social studies, and an elective.
    • Civics/Government will be the middle social studies class for the 2023-2024 year.
    • An optional Algebra class for middle school will be offered for the 2023-2024 year.
  • High school classes for 2023-2024 include Literature/Composition, US History, Personal Finance, Yearbook, Lifeskills, and Art/PE.
  • Parents must teach one class and help in 2 others.
  • Parents will have one hour of “Mom Time” as well as a break during lunch and recess. (All parents must stay on campus during the entire co-op day.)
  • We offer one field trip each month, as well as occasional park play dates.
  • We want to create a safe environment for our children. Because we cannot monitor student activity on personal devices, students will not be allowed to use electronic devices during co-op hours. While we encourage teachers to use technology in the classroom, student devices are usually distractions. We want to maximize instructional time and limit distractions. We also want to equip our students to develop relationships and not rely on technology as a solution for boredom or a crutch to avoid socialization. Students will not be allowed to use cell phones, smart watches, gaming devices, etc. while at Boost. (This includes student use of parent devices.)
  • We want to create a safe environment for our children. Discipline policies and electronic devices policies for students will be strictly enforced. If a student becomes a consistent discipline problem or classroom distraction, bullying included, he/she will be removed from the co-op permanently.
